Well, the starting point would be to say what we’re not – We are not consultants!
IdeasUK is a not for profit, charity, membership organisation, run by our members for our members.
Our membership ranges from organisations with 250 employees up to 500,000 employees from a wide range of backgrounds and industries.
The trustees of the charity are made up of the members and currently include representatives from Bupa, HSBC, Thales and Ricoh amongst others. I suppose you could say we are almost like a social enterprise but for businesses.
Since our inception in the late 80s our aim has been very simple, and that is to assist organisations to engage their employees, whether this is through a formal ideas / innovation programme or through other recognition schemes, our belief is that employees that are engaged in your business will deliver higher productivity and help reduce costs.
So what exactly do we do?
Help launching programmes – We have over 25 years experience and this is available to all members when they are looking to launch or re-launch a programme within the organisation. We have the tools and techniques that we make available that will help you achieve your aims for employee engagement. We understand that all organisations are different and there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach for engagement.
Promote International Ideas Week – Even if you if you do not have a formal programme within your organisation, we offer the opportunity to focus on innovation / ideas during International Ideas Week . We also hold free events for non members where they can meet some of the members we are involved with and get an overview of how engagement works within their organisations.
Idea of the Year Competition – Each year we invite our members to submit the best ideas they have implemented over the past year and these are then judged by an independent panel of judges. The Idea of the Year Award is then presented at our annual conference in November. In 2011 we had over 80 ideas submitted of which 30 were short listed.
Conference – Each November we hold our conference, this is a ‘must attend’ for any engagement professional. Over two days we have various keynote speakers and workshops focusing on ideas and engagement management. This is a truly international conference and last year we had attendees from Finland, Germany, India, United Arab Emirates, Cyprus and the United States of America.
Toolbox and Accreditation – Every member of ideasUK is able to download a free copy of the ideasUk toolbox, this is the definitive guide for anyone who is looking to launch or develop an innovation programme within their organisation. It contains helpful tips and techniques to ensure any programme you run within your organisation is running efficiently and effectively.
Running in conjunction with the toolbox is the accreditation assessment. Every member is able to apply for accreditation and is a great barometer for you to see how your programme is performing. There are four levels to achieve, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Organisations who achieved accreditation in 2011 include: Diageo, UK Border Agency, Dubai Customs and BT.
Telephone / E-mail assistance – As we have a wealth of experience in our Operations team and trustees we are able to answer any issues you may have with your programme. All our members are able to call or e-mail at any time with questions and queries. In fact we encourage all members to engage with us on a regular basis even if it is just to say hello and give us an update on what is happening in their organisation.
So as you can see, as a charity / not for profit organisation, we actually offer our members a wide range of activities to develop or improve any programme they may have.
